Now that Daltongirl has most accurately reported on the main event of August 16, I can step in and take my turn and give you all the other (lesser important) details you're craving. But first things first. Is Nemesis's new husband really still called "Gentleman Friend"? I think we need to fix this as soon as possible. Since Nemesis has been too busy to name him herself (and because it's a myth that life gets less busy after you're married; there's still a lot of work to do), then I'll just go ahead and do it.
I think I'm going to go with Rocky Raccoon. Does anyone want to place bets on how long that will last once Nemesis gets back? But wait! I have solid justification. First of all, GF loves the Beatles, so it's fitting that he should have a Beatles name. Second of all, there's just something... Western about the song, and there's something Western about GF, too. So for at least this blog post, his name is Rocky Raccoon.
Back in November, Nemesis reported on my own cool and wonderful wedding. She did such a good job that I can actually use the post that she wrote for my blog and touch on all the same points as they apply to her wedding:
Temple Choice:
Rocky and Nemesis chose to get married in the L---- temple. Although this was an easy choice because they met in North L----, and Rocky's family is from L----, etc., etc., I must comment on the fact that the L---- temple is one of the coolest choices available. It is such a beautiful temple, and August 16th was a beautiful, perfect day. Before the ceremony, Murray and I spent some time walking around the temple grounds. The temperature was ideal. (This is especially important for photos, later. When everyone was ready for photos, we didn't have to worry about the entire wedding party melting and becoming increasingly hideous for the cameras.)
This is where Murray and I didn't park.
And this is something unspeakable that I found on the temple grounds. Many of you may remember the footwear that Nemesis found at my wedding. What I found was some man who thought that it was acceptable to show up not wearing socks.
Oh my gosh. The no-sock wearer was my own husband! How could this have happened?? (The answer is that we were away from home the night before the wedding, and I'd had to pack for him, and as a person who never ever wears socks, I forgot to pack a pair for my husband, who is a sockaholic and has two drawers full of socks; he was ashamed and bought himself three new pairs at the first opportunity.)
Ceremony:
In LDS temple weddings, the most important part of the day is the simplest and easiest. It's actually really nice to not have to stress about it. The couple is sealed for time and eternity by an appointed temple sealer (typically a fairly elderly gentleman), and that sealer has the chance to offer advice to the new couple. The well-meaning sealer told several stories involving several important and famous people who he had met personally, but to his credit, most of the stories tied back in some way or another to marriage. My favorite part was when Nemesis and Rocky were given permission to kiss, and Rocky decided to make it count---so much so that Nemesis had to shove him off of her (but very gently and reverently). After exchanging rings, when they were invited to kiss again, Nemesis suggested that perhaps Rocky had already had enough. And then we all reverently laughed. (In the following picture, Daltonboy captured Nemesis retelling the kissing story. If this picture doesn't make you fall in love with this couple, I don't know what will.)
The Bride:
Nemesis was stunning and looked as if she had stepped right out of a Jane Austen novel. The dress really couldn't have been more perfect and suited to her. The little white flowers in her hair that she blogged about were absolutely perfect and matched her bouquet! I kept wondering how they did that. Also?
Kicking red shoes. Nemesis knows how to do things.
And she wasn't the only one wearing red shoes.
The Groom:
Rocky was the perfect handsome groom. And the cutest part was the look of joy plastered on his face pretty much the entire day. I loved his green tie to match the wedding colors. So classy!
Really, the temple, the weather, and the bride and groom couldn't have been more perfect!
(It's a better way to live.)
(Photos by the talented Daltonboy, except for my three iPhone pictures. I'm sure you can tell the difference.)
